How can longing for home manifest itself in luggage?

Fashion and Graphic Design students of the Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences (Department of Design) have developed accessories that reflect the notion of navigating and living in between cultures and continents. They researched and developed forms, surfaces, materials, prints, and applications and formed them into a new fashion symbiosis inspired by pop culture and visual memories from their home countries. In a workshop, designers from the Berlin accessory label Liebeskind taught the students all the necessary processes for developing and processing bags.

The point of departure for this fashion project were themes of migration, transculturality, and the concept of mobility in the 21st century.

Which pieces of luggage did people have and still have with them on their journey between continents and cultures? What are the containers for their personal belongings for people when they migrate? How does the longing for the old homeland manifests itself in the luggage? How does the longing for the new home manifests itself in the luggage?

The results are being presented at the Goethe Pop Up Minneapolis Goethe in the Skyways as a final gesture in the form of a commercial Pop Up Shop – a gesture of handing the temporary space in City Center back over to its commercial environment.
